What Fundraise Who Macmillan Cancer Support When March 2019
One woman out of eight is diagnosed with breast cancer. Going through cancer treatment is challenging. No one should experience this on their own. Macmillan Cancer Support offers emotional, physical and financial aid to patients. Within my first half marathon, I fundraised around £1,345 for this charity by selling these T-shirts. The event was a great success and I met some inspiring people. Additional T-shirts were also sold in a convenience store in Berlin (and sent on personal requires to Paris and Barcelona).
A double meaning
A diagnosis of breast cancer is one of the most frightening experiences a woman can have. The logo on the t-shirt should remember patients that they are not alone.
I wanted to create something fun that people would be willing to wear. The design had to be simple, and, yet, it had to convey a strong message.
On the one hand, Stronger Together refers to the idea that a woman is ‘stronger’ when she still has her two breasts.
On the other hand, I wanted to touch on the fact that patients are stronger when they don't have to undergo all of this on their own. The philosophy of Macmillan is to give patients access to holistic treatments, where they are not only supported financially but also physically and emotionally.

Posters were displayed throughout the university and on social media platforms. Writing a text that is not aimed at any commercial use but still involves selling a product was quite challenging.
Pink is the symbolic colour for breast cancer, therefore, the colour of the t-shirts. I decided to print some samples in grey as well, for people who do not wear colours but still want to contribute to this project. I ended up selling more grey T-shirts.
Thank you to all for making this event a great success.
